Fully Motorised Excellence for Complex Eye Surgery

The SOM® 62 Ophthal Advanced is the fully motorised leading solution for all types of eye surgery, from cataract to retinal surgery. The apochromatic motorised 1:6 zoom (3.7 - 22.8x) allows for seamless magnification changes during procedures. The swivel binocular tube (0-210°) offers maximum ergonomic flexibility even during lengthy operations.

All motorised functions, such as zoom, focus, XY coupling and light intensity, are operated via the multifunctional foot control. The proven 15V/150W coaxial cold light illumination with retina protection filter ensures optimal visualisation with maximum patient protection. The integrated video system "Vision" can optionally be added. With wide-angle eyepieces (WF 10x) with dioptre compensation, the SOM® 62 Ophthal Advanced is the ideal choice for demanding eye surgeons and modern operating centres.

For posterior eye surgery, the BIOM from Oculus and the EIBOS from Haag Streit can be adapted, making the microscope a universal platform for all eye surgery. The integrated video system "Vision" can optionally be added. With wide-angle eyepieces (WF 10x) with dioptre compensation, the SOM® 62 Ophthal Advanced is the ideal choice for demanding eye surgeons and modern operating centres.

The SOM© 62 Ophthal Advanced is aimed at eye clinics and specialised centres, covering a wide range of ophthalmological procedures. Those conducting vitrectomies, retinal detachments or macular surgery, in addition to cataract surgery, require the flexibility and precision of this system.

The Advanced is also of interest to training institutions: the enhanced documentation and co-observation features make it the ideal teaching instrument.

80 Years with an Eye for Detail

The exceptional precision and attention to detail characterise every project from Kaps Optik, a quality appreciated by clients and partners worldwide.

Over 75 years of accumulated expertise is incorporated into every bespoke solution, whether for local or international projects.

Specifically for Retinal Surgery

The retina poses special requirements for visualisation. Fine structures, subtle colour differences, layers in the micrometre range – this is where the Advanced shows its strengths.

Apochromatic Optics with Motorised Zoom

The zoom range of 1:6 allows for switching between macula detail view and peripheral overview without losing spatial vision. The apochromatic correction eliminates colour fringes and provides true-to-life representations – essential for assessing retinal changes.

Optimised Illumination for the Red Reflex

The coaxial cold light fibre optic illumination (15V/150W) produces a bright, even red reflex in combination with the optics. The swing-in retina protection filter GG 475 along with fixed built-in IR and UV filters protect sensitive tissue during long procedures.

Ergonomics for Marathon Operations

Retinal surgical procedures can last for hours. The swing tube (0-210°) ensures that the surgeon remains comfortable even after three hours. No compromises on posture, no fatigue from awkward viewing angles.

Advanced Connectivity Options

The Advanced is designed for complex surgical setups. The documentation and assistance capabilities significantly exceed the basic models.

Video and Documentation

A medical-grade Ikegami HD video camera can be connected via single or dual side beam splitters. The TV tube with aperture (f = 54 mm) enables high-quality recordings for documentation, case discussions or educational purposes.

Observation and Training

Dual side beam splitters (50:50 or 80:20) allow the connection of a binocular assistant tube. A second person can observe the procedure at the same magnification - ideal for sterile assistance or surgical training.

Monitor Integration

The optional monitor mount on the swivel arm positions a 22-inch screen (medically approved) directly within view. Height adjustable and ergonomically positioned - no head turning required to see camera images or patient data.

Asepsis Accessories

Asepsis caps are available for all adjustment knobs and handles, allowing adjustments during surgery without compromising sterility. Sterile covers for the microscope head complete the hygiene concept.

What Distinguishes the Advanced

Motorised Zoom 1:6

Stepless magnification adjustment via foot pedal. From an overview to detailed view—seamless and uninterrupted. In retinal procedures, where requirements can change in seconds, it's a real advantage over manual switching.

Swinging Tube 0-210°

The binocular wide-angle swinging tube always ensures an upright, ergonomically correct working position. Regardless of the patient's position or the duration of the procedure, the posture remains relaxed.

Full Foot Control

Zoom, focus, XY positioning and light intensity—all controllable through a foot control panel. Hands consistently remain on the surgical field. A press on the centre button, and the microscope head automatically returns to the central position.

Suitable for Retinal Surgery

The combination of apochromatic optics, precise zoom, and integrated retina protection filter makes the Advanced a reliable partner for retinal procedures. Every layer becomes visible without straining the patient's eye.
