The new operating microscope for cataract surgery
German engineering meets modern LED technology. The SOM4OPHT marks a new generation in the Kaps product family, with separate LED red reflex illumination, an intelligent touchpad, and a memory function that significantly speeds up workflow.
Cataract surgeries are routine, but routine doesn't mean stagnation. The SOM4OPHT introduces innovations into daily surgical practice, providing true added value: illumination that adapts to the procedure. A touchpad that saves settings. And a build quality designed for longevity.
The true stereo observer allows the entire surgical team to participate in the procedure in three dimensions. Training, assistance, teamwork, it all becomes easier when everyone sees the same thing.
The SOM4OPHT is aimed at eye clinics and surgical centres that wish to elevate their cataract surgery to the next level. The memory function makes it particularly appealing for facilities with multiple surgeons, as everyone can save and instantly retrieve their preferred settings.
The system is also attractive for training clinics: The true stereo observer allows for three-dimensional participation in the operation, surpassing mere monitor observation.

Separate LED Red Reflex Illumination
In cataract surgery, illumination determines visibility and safety. The SOM4OPHT employs a dual LED system that meets both requirements and can be controlled independently.
Two Light Sources, One Goal
The coaxial field illumination ensures an even lighting of the surgical area. In parallel, the dedicated Red Reflex illumination provides the characteristic red reflex that makes lens opacities and tissue structures visible. Both systems utilise LED technology, which is long-lasting, energy-efficient, and maintains a constant colour temperature.
Independent Control
Using the touchpad, both light sources can be switched on and off separately and have their brightness adjusted. Certain surgical phases require more red reflex, whereas others need more field illumination. The SOM4OPHT adapts to these requirements, rather than vice versa.
Comprehensive Filter System
Three selectable filters expand usage possibilities: The Green filter (red-free) enhances contrast in vascular structures. The Orange filter (blue-blocking) reduces the blue light exposure for the patient's eye. The Blue filter assists in fluorescence diagnostics. All filters can be quickly and easily integrated into the beam path.
LED Advantages in Everyday Surgery
No warming-up time, no bulb changes during critical procedures, no colour shifts over the lifespan. LED technology provides consistent lighting conditions from the first moment onwards, lasting for thousands of operating hours.

Intelligent Touchpad with Memory Function
Every surgeon works differently. Different magnification preferences, different light intensities, different focusing speeds. The SOM4OPHT remembers these preferences and recalls them at the touch of a button.
Five storage slots for individual workflows
The memory function saves complete setting profiles: zoom position, focus setting, XY coordinates, light intensity of both LED sources. A press on M1 to M5 loads the desired profile. No manual readjustment, no time lost between procedures.
Speed Control for precise movements
The touchpad offers separate speed controls for focus, zoom, and XY movement. Anyone who prefers millimetre precision in fine focusing can set a low speed. Those who need quick position changes can increase the speed. The settings are stored in the memory profile.
Centre button for quick reset
A press on the centre button, and the XY coupling automatically returns to the middle position. Between operations, the microscope is ready to be used again in seconds – without manual repositioning, without searching for the zero position.
Multiple surgeons, one system
In clinics with rotating teams, the memory function shows its strength. Each surgeon can save their preferred profile. Switching between surgeons becomes a trivial matter – personal settings are always just a button press away.
Intuitive operating logic
The touchpad is clearly structured: brightness controls for both LED sources at the top, speed control in the middle, memory buttons at the bottom. The learning curve is shallow, and the familiarisation period is short. Once someone has worked with the system, they’ll not want to go back.

The New Generation of Cataract Surgery
Separate LED Red Reflex Illumination
Two independent LED light sources – coaxial field illumination and dedicated red reflex illumination – deliver brilliant lighting for each phase of the procedure. Both can be separately adjusted and switched on individually as needed.
Intelligent Touchpad with Memory Function
Five memory slots for individual settings. From routine cataract operations to specialised treatments – a button press retrieves the preferred configuration. Zoom, focus, XY position and light intensity are immediately at the accustomed level.
Motorised Zoom 1:6
Continuous magnification adjustment across the entire spectrum. The apochromatic correction ensures high-contrast, true-to-colour images – without colour fringes, without compromise on image quality.
Extended XY Coupling (62 x 62 mm)
Greater range of movement than previous models. More flexibility in positioning, fewer restrictions during procedures.
Swivel Tube 0-210°
Ergonomic freedom for every work situation. The binocular swivel tube guarantees an upright posture – even on long operation days.
